Daniel Nepstad is an Amazon conservation pioneer. Starting his PhD in the mid 1980s in a frontier town of the Brazilian Amazon, he helped guide philanthropy to the region and in 2010 created the Earth Innovation Institute to work internationally at sub-national levels to advance climate-friendly rural development through innovative approaches to sustainable farming, forestry and fisheries.
