Building Trust, Scaling Impact: An Integrity Ecosystem for Carbon in the Amazon Region

A vision for high-integrity carbon markets that link forest conservation with justice and local development in the Amazon.

The publication “Building Trust, Scaling Impact” outlines the Amazon Investor Coalition (AIC)’s vision for creating a high-integrity carbon ecosystem in the Amazon. Amid growing global attention to nature-based solutions, the paper emphasizes that integrity is not an add-on—it is the foundation of any serious climate strategy.

The publication calls for a paradigm shift—from transactional to transformational carbon markets—linking forest conservation to social justice and local development. It argues that carbon should be a means to strengthen territorial resilience and sustainable economies, rather than an end in itself.

The text highlights the central role of Indigenous Peoples and traditional communities as forest guardians, who must be recognized as key decision-makers and legitimate beneficiaries of climate finance. It also stresses the importance of adapting global integrity standards (such as ICVCM, UNDP, and VCMI) to the specific cultural, legal, and ecological realities of the Pan-Amazon region.

Through this position, the Amazon Investor Coalition reaffirms its role as a trusted convener and knowledge ally, connecting local and global actors to strengthen a carbon market that is ethical, transparent, and grounded in Amazonian realities.

Launch details:

The publication was officially launched on October 16, on the Amazon Investor Coalition’s website. To deepen the dialogue and discuss the key messages of the report, the AIC hosted a launch webinar on October 20.
