Nonette Royo: Today we learn about indigenous land tenure. Traditional indigenous territories encompass 22 percent of the world’s land and 80% of the planet’s biodiversity, but governments only recognize legal ownership of a fraction of it, thereby putting lives and ecosystems at risk. The International Land and Forest Tenure Facility serves as a financial mechanism to help traditional communities secure land rights and live sustainably.
