Job Title: Amazon Forest Philanthropy Manager

Location: Amazon Region (Preference for candidates based in Brazil, Peru, Colombia, or nearby areas)

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced philanthropic professional to lead and manage grantmaking efforts focused on reducing deforestation, promoting forest-positive economies, and strengthening the rule of law in the Amazon forest region of South America. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the environmental, social, and economic challenges facing the region and will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, and supporting projects that protect biodiversity, empower local communities, and promote sustainable practices. This role requires strong relationship-building skills, strategic thinking, and a passion for environmental and social impact.

The Amazon Investor Coalition supports the Amazon rainforest by uniting investors, philanthropists and corporate buyers to shift economic cycles away from deforestation, and toward forest protection. To date the Coalition has mobilized over $50 million for the Amazon region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a strategic grantmaking plan and project management system focused on achieving environmental conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and community empowerment in the Amazon region.
  • Identify and assess potential grantees, partners, and projects that align with the organization’s mission and funding priorities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with local communities, NGOs, governmental agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Monitor and evaluate the impact of funded projects, ensuring effective use of resources and alignment with desired outcomes.
  • Prepare and present reports on grant activities, project performance, and impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to leverage resources and expertise to support grantmaking initiatives.
  • Represent the organization at local, regional, and international events, conferences, and meetings related to Amazon conservation and development.

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Nonprofit Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is desirable, but not required.
  • At least 5-10 years of experience in grantmaking, fundraising, program management, or a related philanthropic role, with a focus on environmental or social initiatives.
  • Proven track record of developing and managing successful projects in the Amazon region, or in the global south.
  • Strong understanding of the ecological, social, and cultural dynamics of the Amazon forest and region.
  • Experience working with indigenous and local communities is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, writing, negotiation, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Fluency in Portuguese or Spanish, with English proficiency required.
