Job Title: Communications Manager

Location: Preferably in the Amazon region of South America (especially Belem or Manaus)

About Us:

The Amazon Investor Coalition is a non-profit start-up on a mission to increase and improve investments in forest-friendly economic development, and the rule of law, across the Amazon region of South America. The Coalition is an impact finance learning-and-collaboration platform that convenes investors and philanthropists, in partnership with communities, companies, governments, and civil society. We have catalyzed over $50 million of new investing in the Amazon region to date.

We are dedicated to promoting sustainability and conservation efforts within the Amazon region. Through a combination of research, community engagement, and sustainable practices, we aim to protect the Amazon’s biodiversity and support the well-being of its Indigenous People and Local Communities.

We are searching for a Communications Manager who is passionate about environmental conservation and has the skills to share our message across a variety of media platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Communication: Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with our mission of Amazon sustainability. This includes messaging across traditional and digital media platforms in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.

  • Media Relations: Serve as the primary contact for all media inquiries. Build and maintain relationships with media outlets across radio, TV, print, and online channels to promote our projects and initiatives.

  • Content Supervision: Lead external agencies in the development of complex and wide-ranging omni-channel creative executions. Supervise the creation of engaging and informative content, including press releases, newsletters, social media posts, and video scripts that highlight our efforts in the Amazon region. Ensure content is culturally and linguistically appropriate for diverse audiences.

  • Social Media Supervision: Manage a strategy of social media producers to increase visibility and engagement with our work. Monitor social media trends and analytics to refine strategies and maximize impact.

  • Event Coordination: Organize and manage events such as press conferences, webinars, and community outreach programs to raise awareness about Amazon sustainability issues.

  • Crisis Communication: Prepare and implement crisis communication plans as needed to address potential challenges or misinformation affecting the organization or the Amazon region.

  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments to ensure a unified and consistent message. Provide communication support and training to staff as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Environmental Studies, or a related field.

  • Several years of experience in communications, public relations, or a similar role, with a strong preference for experience related to environmental conservation and sustainability.

  • Native fluency in English is required. Proficiency in Portuguese and Spanish is also needed.

  • Proven experience with various forms of media, including radio, TV, print, and social media.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.

  • Strong understanding of the sustainability challenges facing the Amazon region.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, with a high degree of initiative and flexibility.

  • Willingness to travel within the Amazon region as needed.
